Here is a tour of where we live. I have
already told you a little about the city we live in, Al Ain. We like
it here, except for the excessive amount of roundabouts that the
people drive recklessly through. It is very green here and family
friendly. The weather is also nicer with less humidity, even though
it is still in the mid 90's late October.
Al Ain in split into districts. We live
in the Muwaiji District in a complex called Muwaiji Village. We like
the complex for a number of reasons.
- There is a parking garage below the complex, so your car stays cooler. Also, you have to have a clicker to get through the gate to the garage, so random people can't drive down there.
- The elevator from the parking garage is right near our flat.
- There is a pool and gym. Ryanne likes that there is a women's only swim time and a women's only gym.
- The rooms are all off a corridor inside, so if you walk to a friend's flat, you can walk inside in the AC.
- The neighbors are all so nice. We have a community facebook page and everyone will help anyone else out. People will help others move stuff, set things up, babysit...I even had a bunch of people let me borrow dresses for a wedding I went to. Right now we are in the process of planning a Trunk-or-Treat event with cotton candy and jump houses for the kids. It is a nice community.Pool

Welcome to our flat
Of course it is not perfect.... but
that's the country for you. It took awhile for plumbing to get right
and it still can be odd at times. It takes awhile to get maintenance
to come and do things and people park in the street when they should
park in the garage. Overall though... not too much to complain about.
Our flat is nice, especially
considering it is paid for. We have the basics but are still working
on decorating.
When you walk in there is a hallway
that goes straight down through. Off the hallway is an alcove. We
have a washer/dryer combo. It washes and drys in the same machine. We
added shelving and a curtain to make it more like a closet space.

The first thing off the hallway is a
small half-bath on the right. Nothing special.
The next room on the right is the
kitchen. We decided to not purchase a stove. Instead we have a large
toaster/roasting oven, a burner, and a large griddle/grill. We are
able to cook all we need on those and it takes up less space. The
space where the stove would go, we put extra shelving for food. We
are glad we went with that option.
At the end of the hallway is our
bedroom. Shawn actually picked out most of the color scheme and I
love the bright colors. We got the bed frame, nightstands, and
dressers used. We have a few things to hang on the wall, but haven't
gotten to that yet. We also just got the TV for the bedroom, so we
are still looking for another table to put it on. It was a good
purchase though because I like to lay down in bed and night with my
feet up and can unwind with some American TV.
Off the left at the end of the hallway
is the baby's room. It is my favorite room in the house! We bought
the crib used, and they gave us the bedding. We went from there with
colors and a theme. We have some wall stickers to hang on the walls.
We still need to get the rocker, and maybe a daybed for guests. I
love to come stand in this room! His bathroom also went along with
the theme. There is another alcove behind his door, so we added some
shelving to use as a closet space. There are no closets in the flat.
Most places over here do not have closets.
On the left of the hall when you walk
in is our living space. It is our living room, eating area, and
office. The first item we bought was the red couch, and we went from
there. We still need to decorate and hand things on the wall, but
overall it is a nice space. We spend a lot of time on that couch!
So there is our home. Hope you like it!
